Can Exposure To Mold Cause Diverticulitis?

Question: Hello, I just learned through a mold inspection report that my bedroom has mold spores. A couple of weeks ago I was told by a contractor that the master bathroom of the house I am renting needed to be completely gutted due to mold. I have been living in the house for 4 1/2 years. On XXXXXXX 22nd I was admitted to the hospital with a diagnoses of diverticulitis, and after debilitating headaches, it was determined that I have a white matter on my brain that doctors first thought was demylinitation. I was on a medical leave for there months because they also found that the right vertebral artery had four dissections leaking blood into my vein, causing a fistula. I spent three weeks in the hospital. Doctors could not figure out what the white matter was after completing spinal tap, ct scans, MRI's. I went to see a doctor at UCSF and he disagreed that the white matter is demyelination, and rather congenital. I am scheduled for another MRI in 6 months. A couple of years ago I started developing vitiligo and was told it is a auto immune deficiency. My bathroom was completely demolished, and not properly dealt with as far as the mold, and now the report is reflecting mold spores.

Can mold cause diverticulitis, as I have found on Utube? Can mold spores cause vitiligo. The mold and smells became increasingly worse for the past 5 months, and so has the vitiligo.

Thank you for reading this. My story is complicated, and I would appreciate knowing more.

Brief Answer:
Mold could be one of the factors that predispose to your conditions.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your questions and understand your concerns.

First, if it is possible to upload or write down the MRI report, this can help me understand better white matter changes of brain.

Probable causes of white matter lesions include demyelination, small artery disease of brain, hypoxia.

Both, demyelination and small artery disease could be caused by autoimmune diseases.

Diverticulitis as an inflamation, also could be related to autoimmune disorders too.

Vitiligo causes are not fully understood, but it is related with psychiatric conditions and autoimmune disorders too.

So, seems to be there an autoimmune disorder that relates all your problems.

Mold is not fully studied and there are no scientific evidences to be sure if it can cause any of above disorders, but in several studies is found to aggravate a number of health conditions including autoimmune disorders too.

In my opinion, is less possibly that only mold caused all these disorders, their causes are multifactorial and include genetic and environmental factors.

Mold is well known as an environmental factor that predisposes or worsen autoimmune disorders, psychological problems etc. and this is thought to be related to toxins it produces and releases.

Not all the people exposed to mold develop such diseases, a genetic predisposition and other environmental factors are needed as well.

Arteriovenous fistulas causes include venous thrombosis, infection, head injuries, so fistula is very unlikely to be related to mold.

In conclusion, mold toxins as one of the environmental factors could interact with genetic predisposition and other factors and could cause autoimmune disorders, or predispose to vitiligo.

Changing your house or cleaning it from mold, is the first step to control your conditions.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Awaiting for MRI report too.

Take care.
