Question: Hi ,

I am a 30 years male . I used to be very sexually active from the age of 17 years . I used to get excited and get erections just by imagination and even a small glipmse of cleavage used to excite me a lot . I went to college for my bachelors and got my first introduction to porn by my seniors . I used to watch porn and masterbate in college days and continued the habbit from the last 10 odd years . I joined job and continued watching porn. I always used to have a collection in my hard disk . I started using porn and masterbation as a way to get rid off stress . In a way i got addicted to porn and even masterbated three times in a day when i was very stressed.I used to enjoy masterbating . Off late , i lost interest in porn and porn is not exciting me any more. I am not even getting excited by nude images of women. My erections are not at all happening how much so ever i try to do so -not even by porn. My parents are looking for matches and iam worried if i have to go ahead or not. I am worried now if i am fit for marriage at all. I somehow have a feeling i lost it and this is affecting me professionally as well.

Please, help me out and suggest any remedies if possible

I read your query and understand your concern.

From the available description an impression can be made that sexual faculty in you is over used leading to exhaustion.

I think there is another way of interpreting things at disposal.

Stress once used to get disposed off on getting aroused and discharging the libidinal energy is overwhelming at this moment and not amenable to sexual energy. I mean to say that probably stress in your life is so overwhelming which leading to decrease arousal or difficult arousal.

In my view it is very important to take stress seriously and do whatever you can do to reduce it.

For your ease I am writing down few of the strategies that will help you in management of stress and proper handling of situation.

1. Diet: Ensure intake of adequate quantity of fiber. Avoid junk food and fast food especially pizza, burgers and excessive sweets

2. Ensure adequate water intake: Recommended intake of water is 2 to 3 liter a day. Insufficient intake of water could be a contributing factor in causation of stress.

3. Early morning Exercise: Brisk walking for 30 minutes at a stretch preferably in garden will be very helpful.

4. Avoid tea/coffee/ nicotine and alcoholic beverages: If at all you want to drink something, drink fresh lime water. It is very much refreshing.

5. Start your day with a glass of Lemon water with 2 spoons of honey added. have a good breakfast.


6. Don't take work so seriously:
The work pressure is high: Call it a day, take a short leave and hit out to picnic spot which you always wanted to go
Spend time with your family and friends and share responsibility with local help groups.

7. While working take frequent regular breaks: Taking regular breaks will not waste the time, but it will definitely increase the productivity, concentration and reasoning.
Close your eyes and rotate the eye balls for couple of minutes

8. Avoid late night socialization

9. Avoid starring for longer time at the computer screen or TV for longer time

10. Steam inhalation before going to sleep will be very refreshing: will also benefit your allergy

11. Meditation and Yoga

Hi Dr. XXXXXXX XXXXXXX ,

Thanks for the detailed advise.

I would like to know if you think stress alone is the main factor responsible and i can rejenuate back once i manage my stress or i am suffering from Erectile Dysfunction or some other condition.

I never had sex with anyone till now . I would like to know if i should start any treatment related to ED . Also , do you think if i stop watching porn and manage my stress levels and allow myself to heal naturally - I can become normal .

I do understand that dependance on porn has been over dose in my case. I need your opinion on this so that i can do something about it . I did have a blood test recently and everything was normal. This thing is making me paranoid as a lot of things depends on this - If i have to go ahead with plans of marriage or not.


Please , let me know your opinion.

I do not think you need treatment for ED at this stage as most of the symptoms indicate toward role of stress and managing stress will enough to rejuvenate.

Watching porn for limited time is acceptable but watching porn as stress relieving method is not something we should do. In my view rather than porn itself, the guilt associated with watching porn is more problematic and I think this is another area which needs your immediate attention.
