Question: Hello, I have been travelling in the USA from XXXXXXX and ran out of all my medications and attempted to obtain them while here in the states. I have been on these medications for months (at least 12 weeks of more). I had the RX faxed over to where I am at in XXXXXXX XXXXXXX Co. Come to find out they are not able to re fill the prescription due to the nature of the medications being Narcotics. Her is what I was on: Risperidone 1.5 MG nocte, Marixin (Memantine) 10 MG BID, Eldepryl 5 MG x 2 in the morning, & Provigil 200 MG Tabsx1 in the morning. As of yesterday I was out of my medications and could not have them re-filled in the USA due to their being Narcotics. I have now been off them for the past 24 - 36 hours; (last dose taken two days ago when I ran out. I feel like I have been okay today aside from the need to take a couple of naps for 10 minutes then fully recharged. I was already considering stopping the use of these medications which I was waiting to do once I got back to XXXXXXX to do through supervision of my G.P. QUESTIONO: Is their anything I can do now and or should I be concerned after having stopped them COLD TURKEY? Your response is greatly appreciated. Thanks XXXXXXX Gardner

Brief Answer:
They shouldn't be stopped cold turkey!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks so much for this query.

I have reviewed this information fully and all the medications. They shouldn't be stopped cold turkey and am sad to learn this happened. If all efforts have been met with futility, then we may only have to deal with the consequences of stopping cold turkey if withdrawal symptoms set in.

For now, monitor and report any changes to me. I will guide you through accordingly. How long is your stay in the USA going to be? If you were to go to the hospital here, would that be possible?

I hope this helps and guides. I wish you well. Feel free to follow up with me and keep me updated. If anything changes, inform me immediately so that I can guide accordingly.
