Can Diabetes Cause A Drop In Hemoglobin?

default
Posted on Tue, 24 Oct 2017
Question:
Blood disorders such as dropping hemoglobin for a diabetic 2.. now blood sugar is rising

Va patient but have medicare. hemoglobin dropping from 13.5 tg 9.1 . blood sugar, which was being controlled now nearly 300 when testing. had a battery of test at va to see if I'm leaking blood from a tear but nothing found. taking high dosages of insulin and I don't know if that caused the hemoglobin problem. 68 years old. I feel the battery of test would have found terminal illness from a blood disease or cancer. have heart disease. Is there a specialist in blood disorders, or is this just the end of life situation. While extremely grateful to the VA, it's not the Mayo clinic and there is constant turnover and mostly nurse practisioner for personal care. I do not see an endocrinologist there nor a cardiologist. Where can I go, who can I see, what would be the next step.

Brief Answer:
You should investigate for cause of low hemoglobin.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, dear
I have gone through your question.
I can understand your concern.

Your drop in hemoglobin is not related to your diabetes. It is due to different reason.

It can be due to iron deficiency, vitamin B12 deficiency, bone marrow problem, some bleeding or due to some other reason.

You should consult a hematologist. You should go for peripheral smear examination and anemia profile test. Then you should go for further testing accordingly. First all of all we need to find exact cause. Then take treatment accordingly.

Hope I have answered your question. If you have any doubts then feel free to ask me. I will be happy to answer. Thanks for using health care magic.Wish you a very good health.
