Can Chronic Tooth Decay And Swollen TMJ Cause Alopecia?

default
Posted on Tue, 1 Sep 2015
Question: Can a chronic Tooth decay and a swollen TMJ problem cause Alopecia? I am thinking i should fix my tooth decay which needs a root canal and i have been holding it off for 6 months now.

Moreover i grind my teeth and have severe tMJ problem and also swollen lymph nodes around chin and jaw, thats exactly where my Alopecia barbae is.

My blood tests show high white blood cell count, you think it could be the bacteria tooth decay that's causing it? maybe after cure of tooth and tMJ, my barbae will end?

Please advise.

Brief Answer:
Tooth decay and TEMPOROMANDIBULAR JOINT DISORDER does not lead to Alopaecia

Detailed Answer:
Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..

As per your complain the cause of swollen lymph nodes under the jawline as well as below chin is very much due to infection in the tooth for which you are advised to get Root Canal Treatment done and you should immediately get a latest IOPAR (x Ray) of the tooth done as 6 months is much of a time and the decay must have progressed further..
In case if the tooth is in a condition to get saved immediately get the root canal treatment done followed by capping of the tooth atleat after 15 days of root canal completion..
In case if the tooth has decayed grossly get it extracted followed by antibiotics and painkillers..

For TMJ problem due to Bruxism it teeth grinding habit get a MOUTH GUARD made by your dentist that is to be worn at night to prevent teeth grinding..
If you have related stress issues doing yoga and meditation can be helpful and in case of chronic stress anti-anxiety medication like Valium can be helpful but should be taken only after consulting a Physician..

As there is increase in white blood cells and there is no other infection in the body it is probably due to Septicemia and Bacteremia due to infection from tooth entering the blood stream and causing raised white blood cells as they fight against infection in body and treatment of the tooth and taking antibiotic course can resolve the situation..

Alopaecia is not due to the dental problem and you need a Dermatologist to evaluate you so that he can assess the condition and treatment can be planned as per diagnosis as Alopaecia Barbae is mostly autoimmune or genetic in origin and no other cause has been found so far, therefore relation with tooth decay or swelling in lymph nodes is not considered as the cause..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards..
