Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX!

Welcome on HCM!

Regarding your concern, I would explain that seizures could be a consequence of atrial fibrillation in your situation, especially if they occur at the same time.

You should know that during atrial fibrillation, the blood supply to the brain decreases (because the heart is not able to pump blood properly). In a susceptible brain, seizures can occur during those moments.

If this is confirmed during an EEG which has an ECG lead too, then the treatment of atrial fibrillation would lead to prevention of the seizures and no antiepileptic treatment would be needed.

But, if seizures occur in a different time from the episodes of atrial fibrillation, then you would need treatment with antiarrhythmic for atrial fibrillation and also antiepileptic drugs for epilepsy.

But, it is important to differentiate this by performing an EEG coupled with an ECG lead at the same time.

You should discuss with your doctor on the above issues.

Hope you will find this answer helpful!

Kind regards,

Dr. Iliri
