Can An Overdosed Suprefact Injection Effect My IVF Cycle?

default
Posted on Sat, 29 Mar 2014
Question: I just started IVF cycle Estrace Priming. I started my injectable medication on March 6th. 300 GonalF, 150 Menopur and 0.05 Suprefact. I accidentally gave 0.5ml instead of 0.05ml on first day of injectables. March 7th I didn't take suprefact because of the large amount given the day before. What will happen to my eggs and lining? Will my cycle be cancelled?

Brief Answer: Next 2-3 doses need to be skipped. Detailed Answer: Hello, Thanks for trusting us with your health concern. The total daily subcutaneous dose is 0.5 mg buserelin - 0.5 ml (Suprefact) given in one injection. It should continue at least until down-regulation is achieved (serum oestradiol < 50 ng/l and serum progesterone < 1 mcg/l). This will usually take about 2-3 weeks. Since you have injected an overdose you can skip the next 2-3 doses and get the serum oestradiol and progesterone levels estimated after consulting your gynecologist. The cycle may need to be cancelled also. Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have. Wishing you good health. Regards. Dr. Rakhi Tayal. Should I bother to take the Suprefact 0.05ml tonight? I have to go for blood work and ultrasound in the morning. My results will be given to be later in the day by my doctor? What exactly is the Suprefact used for in my case? Is it to mature the egg or to stop ovulation? Is this an estrace priming antagonist protocol or estrace priming agonist protocol?

Brief Answer: You can take today's dose. Detailed Answer: Hello. Thanks for writing again. You can take the tonight's dose and get the blood work done. Suprefact is used to stop the sex hormone secretions which is then regulated with FSH Gonadotropin and LH injections to start the ovulation. This is estrace priming antagonist protocol. Hope my answer is helpful. If you do not have any clarifications, you can close the discussion and rate the answer. Wish you good health. Regards
