Can An Enlarged Thyroid Gland Cause Neck Pain Or Tinnitus?

default

Question: Can an enlarged thyroid cause neck pain and or tinnitus? I tested positive one time for a pituitary tumor and the next week the test was negative. I have been told blood tests for tumor are inconclusive because the hormones they release are not always there.

Brief Answer:
Thyroid.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

If the thyroid gland grows significantly in size, and particularly there is a discrete nodule ie lump within it, then it can cause neck pain. This must be explored further to rule out worrisome causes.

More tests such as Ultrasound examination along with blood test for TSH will give an idea as to whether or not FNA biopsy is warranted.

A pituitary tumor can be challenging to diagnose with hormone tests sometimes. You will be best served by consulting an endocrinologist in-person who will examine you and determine which tests are necessary.

Hope I have answered your query.
