Question: Are you qualified (as an ENT) to perform nerve decompression surgery? Specifically on the trochlear and trigeminal nerves also with entry through top of skull instead of keyhole approach. Lastly, is this simple surgery have a quick recovery time and can one go home same day of surgery? Thanks for your help!

Brief Answer:
No, ENT Doc is not authorized to perform this...

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for posting the query.

No as an ENT Surgeon I'm not qualified to do skull base surgeries. A neuro-otologist (ENT Surgeon specialized in skull base surgeries) and a neurosurgeon can perform this surgery.

It is a small burr hole surgery done behind the ear. It takes 2-3 hours depending upon the experience of the surgeon.

Post surgery, within 2-3 days the patient will be released from the hospital and given discharge instructions.

Hope this answers your query. I'll be available for the follow up queries.
