Brief Answer:
It is possible in rare cases.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

In very rare cases its possible. The main reason would be chronic vomiting with dehydration and malnutrition. Achalasia can also be the reason of esophageal cancer (in few %).
As he is after the surgery and is still vomiting, barium swallow test should be repeated to see if it is not obstructed. Gastroscopy seems necessary as well.

Hope this helps.
Regards.
