Posted on Fri, 5 Apr 2019
Question: Hi, I have some slight swelling in the back of my neck and base of my skull, I having difficulty focusing, when the pain is a little unsettling, and a little concerned. Additionally, I have some slight tingling in my hands and some dullness around my lips. Additionally, sharp and loud sounds are extremely annoying for some reason (I'm not normally annoyed by loud sounds). I know this is not quite enough to make a determination, but would like to know whether I can wait and see my neurologist on Friday or do I need to seek medical assistance earlier.

Brief Answer:

You can wait until Friday.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

I have noted your clinical details. Based on this, possibilities include a pinched nerve in the neck, often caused by disc protrusion and a migraine-like headache. The neurological evaluation can wait until Friday.

Until now, you can use medicines for relief such as ibuprofen, Diclofenac or naproxen tablets.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Dr. XXXXXXX thank you for getting back with me. I live alone and many body ailments at my age become a little more intensified with the absence of anyone being here to share it with. Nonetheless, i had a hemilamilectomy (L4-5) this past August 2017, the healing process has been a slow one, but I maintain my active lifestyle. Unfortunately, I'm obese and working on losing weight, down to 350 from 420, 6'2". I'm sure my back and joints have taken a beating over the years up till my decision to reduce significantly. Recently my neurosurgeon, who completed my Hemi (L4-5), ordered me an MRI of the cervical spine area. Would you be comfortable to examine this film? He said that he found something of a find with this film, but did not explain it to from a grassroots level. This neck muscle base of skull feeling has been going on for some time, approximately 4-5 months. It also seems to manifest itself in affecting my thoughts and sometimes has me scrambling on what I was thinking about before this pain came along i,t is nothing short of a scary and unsettling feeling.
Additionally I have some idiopathic neuropathy in my right foot and some in my left foot, all related to the operation I suppose. It tends to become more prominent as the day progresses and as I stand on my feet more. Is this entire process related completely to my weight and stresses this mass cause my skeletal infrastructure and nervous system? You will have to excuse me, my profession is engineering and I may speak in these circles, but it is what I understand. Thank you

Brief Answer:

Please upload the MRI reports.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

I would be pleased to look at your MRI cervical spine reports, please upload them. I agree weight and nature of the job, along with stress do play an important role in causing these problems, and also in slowing down the healing process.

Lack of family support too is a negative when it comes for recovery from illnesses.

Hope I have answered your query.

Take care
