Xanax and valium both are benzodiazepines and can cause sedation. Taking both together can cause excessive sedation and if patient is medically ill they can cause Respiratory depression. Better to avoid taking together. Yes they can be taken together with caution in prescribed dose when one is not sufficient to treat the problem.
