Ultram is the trade name for the medication, tramadol. This is an opioid and it is the same type of medication as codeine. Because they are in the same family, similar reactions are likely.

There are some persons that may react to one member of a drug family and not the other but unfortunately there is no way , besides trying them , to be sure of this.
