Can Tamoxifen Be Taken In Place Of Letrozole?

default
Posted on Fri, 4 Nov 2016
Question: I have been taking Letrozole as a follow up to a mastectomy for carcinoma in situ. There was no metastasis. It is beginning to cause a lot of bursitis all over. It has been in my knees, ankles, hips, and now it is appearing in my jaw. It also makes me very tired, I can't remember things and the hot flashes are awful. I'm taking Estroven to help with some of the symptoms, and it does help a little bit. The immobility, however, is really a problem. I've been trying to manage with joint injections, etc., but it's getting ahead of me. I am a very active 77 years of age--I am on a leadership team for a religious community. I am wondering if Tamoxifen would have less side effects and give me more mobility again. If you think it would, I will ask my oncologist to change. She has told me that is an option. Thank you for any help you can give me.

Brief Answer:
hello. yes it is an option.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear. Welcome to hcm. I have gone through the details. I understand your concern. Some patients experience troublesome side effects with letrozole and in that case it can be safely replaced by tamoxifen. You can ask your oncologist to get it changed to tamoxifen. Please continue your calcium supplement s along it.
Thanks and regards
