Can Pradaxa Affect The Heart Rate?

default
Posted on Tue, 11 Jul 2023
Question: I had a TIA yesterday. I am taking Pradaxa and have been for about a week. I take one 75 mg at 10 am and one at 10 pm. I am 86 years old. Tonight I get short of breath when I lie down. My right ankle swelled yesterday and is still swollen. Should I take another Pradaxa now (5:00 am) ,? pulse is 44 and oxygen absorption is 98. My breathing is normal if I remain seated upright. My cardiologist will not be in her office today but will be tomorrow. Should I just sit up until tomorrow?

Brief Answer:

Need more Information

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Pradaxa to not affect heart rate but can cause renal impairment (depends on creatinine clearance) which may lead to a swollen ankle.

Before giving my opinion I would like to know more about your medical history if have diabetes, hypertension or high cholesterol and what other drugs are you taking along with Pradaxa.

Pradaxa should be discontinued only if you are experiencing any abdominal discomfort or bleeding from anywhere in the body.

Hope I have answered your query.

Take care
