Can Oxazepam And Temazepam Be Taken While On Diazepam?

Posted on Fri, 22 Jan 2016
Question: What is the therapeutic range of Oxazepam and Temazepam for a PT taking 10 mg Diazepam 1 every 8 hrs. Nordiazepam came back as 1212 ng/ml which I understand is within the norm for UDT results for this dosage of Valium.

Brief Answer:
Avoid use in combination

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. With diazepam 10 mg every 8 hours, i don't think oxazepam or temazepam is indicated as their use simultaneously can lead to pharmacodynamic synergism and respiratory depression and extreme sedation . Stick to diazepam and avoid use in combination. The peak plasma concentration of temazepam is 210 to 260 ng per ml and that of oxazepam is 450 ng per ml.

Nutshell, avoid the use in combination. I hope it helps. take good care of yourself and don't forget to close the discussion please.

Actually, what I was asking is what would one expect to see on a urine drug screen for the 3 as my understanding is GC/MS should show Diazepam broken down to
nordiazepam, oxazepam, and temazepam. What would be the expected ng per ml of urine for one who had been taking 10mg of Valium every 8 hours for several weeks?

For example, would nordiazepam = 1212 ng/ml, oxazepam = 4502 ng/ml, and temazepam = 2925 ng/ml be what one could expect to see on that dose of Valium?

Again, based on Urine Screen (GC/MS).

Thanks for such a quick answer.

Brief Answer:
Depends on a lot of variables

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back to me

if you expect temazepam as metabolit eof valium, that wont happen. Valium metabolites produced by liver are N-desmethyldiazepam, 3-hydroxy diazepam, oxazepam and their values in urine vary quite much provided the time of test taken since last dose. As half life of diazepam is up to 70 hours including active metabolite and taking it three times a day will give pretty high levels in urine, what exactly, is some thing i cant calculate. I am sorry for that. It depends on cytochrome enzyme levels which metabolise the drug, the pharmacodynamic synergisms, the doses apart from valium, many other pharmacokinetic factors, Nutshell, talk to your doctor or drug analysis expert. They can help you do the math.

I hope it helps.
