Can Olanzapine Cause Sexual Dysfunction?

default
Posted on Thu, 4 May 2017
Question: Is there and medicine in the World able to treat bipolar and a patient be sexually functional ? I've been taking Olanzipine going on about five years now ; and have at time experienced climax , but not a full erection . should 'I take that and run with it' and consider myself lucky , even thou at this point in my sexual health I'll never penetrate a woman . Still most times with some tremendous urges I won't and can't satisfy myself . Do I have just admit to myself that it's Olanzipine or losing my mind ; or is there some reasonable treatment for this feeling of being 'nurtured', and leave it at that ; be XXXXXXX and to the point . THANK YOU, XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
OLanzapine is relatively safer in terms of sexual side effects

Detailed Answer:
Hello thanks for asking from HealthCareMagic

I can understand your concern. Olanzapine is a second generation antipsychotic drug. The drug is commonly used drug in bipolar disorder. Even on high doses the drug is considered as relatively safer in terms of sexual side effects. So if you are functioning relatively better with this drug and has not complete sexual dysfunction then you can continue to take it without worries.

Newer drugs like Ziprasidone, Aripiprazole or Lurasidone can be kept in options. These drugs don't cause metabolic side effects will not cause sexual side effects.

So if you are not satisfied with Olanzapine then you can talk with your doctor for these drugs.

Thanks, Take care
