Can Nifedipine Be Taken In The Morning?

Question: I am changing taking taking nifedipine er to th am from pm,bcaise I do not fall asleep until 4 am taking the the drug.I thought taking inam would be better,is this ok

Hello,

sleep disturbances may indeed occur with nifedipine although the frequency should be low. Taking it in the morning is OK unless you're also taking other antihypertensive drugs at the same time. If you're taking more than 2 antihypertensive drugs then it's better to take half (or most) of them in the morning and take the rest in the evening. If this is the only antihypertensive medicine you're taking then you can take it in the morning without any anticipated problems. This strategy may fail to help though. Substituting nifedipine for another drug may be more effective...
