Brief Answer:
Your symptoms can be explained as side effect of the drug which should subside when you stop it

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for asking at healthcaremagic.

Mucinex DM is a drug for cough and has two ingredients, one guaifenesin which is a very commonly used medication for cough and dextrometrophan that is a cough suppresant that means it reduces the need to cough.

Most of the side effects of this medication are related to dextrometrophan which is in the group of the opioids and has a risk of making you feel side effects related to its family. Feeling drowsy, confused, irritated and other effects in the central nervous system are possible side effects with it. This happens rarely and most of the times patients are OK when stopping the drug.

If you are not drinking well, this might be a reason to feel lightheaded other than a possible side effect of the drug so make sure you drink well by taking frequent small amounts of fluids. You need to keep yourself well hydrated. It is always possible to sip small amounts of water and or other juices every 10 minutes and will help with this.

I hope this is helpful to you and addresses your health concerns but please feel free to reply if anymore clarification is needed on this.

Kind regards,

Antoneta Zotaj, MD
