Brief Answer:
it can cause drowsiness

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Methocarbamol is a muscle relaxant and unfortunately it can cause drowsiness. This is a common side effect of muscle relaxants.

The problem with the different medications mentioned above, is the risk of sedation/drowsiness. Since this side effect can occur with a number of the meds mentioned above, it may mean that you are going to feel very sleeping.

Drowsiness is a side effect of the methocarbamol, oxycodone, gapapentin, clonazepam.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions

Is there anything I can do to relieve the pain of the herniated discs. If I can avoid surgery I will do whatever it takes to feel better.

Last Saturday I was sitting on my bed, I leaned forward and screamed in pain. I had a knot in my upper right abdome, I laid down and after about an hour the knot was gone and I felt okay. On Monday it happened again but the pain lasted longer. I went to the hospital but they could find nothing wrong. It is still hurting. Do you have any idea what it was?

Brief Answer:
seem to be conservative therapy at the moment

Detailed Answer:
HI

Back pain can be one of the worse types of pain to have to deal with.

Treatment would normally entail conservative treatment unless there is significant nerve compression and damage requiring surgery as soon as possible.

Conservative treatment involves: rest, pain medication, medication for nerve symptoms, muscle relaxants, steroids may be given in some cases and physiotherapy.
This is the extent of conservative therapy and you seem to be on this therapy at the moment.
If your current medication regimen is not working for you, it can be altered.

The most likely cause of sudden pain with an associated knot, would be muscular spasm but the reason for spasm would need to be determined.
If the nerves that supply the abdomen are affected by your back condition, then this can be a cause.

Other causes would be electrolyte disorders (abnormal levels of potassium, calcium and magnesium), dehydration.

Please feel free to ask anything else

What would you consider symptoms that would require surgery? My symptoms include My legs vibrating all the time, I can't bend at the waist at all, ( it causes screaming pain and I cry for days after ). Numbing in my legs and feet at different times in different places. My feet are ice cold all the time. My body jumps all over uncontrolabl. I have had the herniated discs for a year and nine months and my symptoms are getting worse. My symptoms have got so bad in the last year that I have been living in my bed. My quality of life is not what it was.

Brief Answer:
should definitely consider it

Detailed Answer:
HI

Definitely if you are limited to your bed combined with the other symptoms mentioned, you should consider surgery to try and improve your quality of life

It must be very difficult to have to deal with all of these symptoms consistently

Thank you so much for hearing me. Thank you for caring a little. My doc asked me to call him when I knew who I wanted to see for an orthopedic consult. I am considering the spine center in Redding.

I have another comcern. Over the last few years around my eyes have turned dark. My liver enzymes are always elevated when blood work is done. Never addressed. Could my eyes turning dark be related to something else going on? Thank you for your time.

Answered by Dr. Michelle Gibson James (8 hours later)
Brief Answer:
not usually related to the liver

Detailed Answer:
HI

If you mean the skin around the eyes, then it may not be related to the liver.

Discoloration around the eyes can be related to lack of sleep, allergies, stress, inherited, alcohol use, eczema

Liver disease can cause yellow discoloration of the skin and eyes, itching, change in the color of the stool or urine (depending on the cause). In severe cases, there may be a build up of fluids as well along with altered appetite and weight loss.

At the moment one of the most common reasons for increased in liver enzymes is non alcoholic fatty liver disease. This is the build up of fat in the liver not related to alcohol use.
It can progress to cause inflammation and damage to the liver if there is no treatment

Treatment involves mainly diet changes, medication and activity but the activity would be difficult for you.
A low or reduced carb diet is actually recommended because carbs are turned into and stored as fat.
Statins (medication to reduce cholesterol), can also help as well

Have you heard of the Back to life product? It claims to be able tor reduce the pain in the spine. It uses a passive motion to elongate the spine to increses blood flow and relieve the pain and pressere It is supposed to be able to put bulging discs back in thier place. I don't want to by it unless it really works. It is supposed to relieve pain and increase blood flow in the spine. If you know if it really works please let me know. Go check it out and let me know please. Thank you so much for your help and answering my questions. Have a Rainbow Day.

Brief Answer:
would need to lie flat and elevate legs

Detailed Answer:
HI

This product seems to try to relieve the spasm of the muscles in the back by stretching, traction to the vertebra and vibrations.
It needs the user to lie flat and elevate the legs, you would need to determine whether this may be painful for you to do.
If you think that you can achieve this discomfort with no or minimal problems then you should consider it.

Some user reviews were not very positive at all. At this stage, you may want to consider asking your physiotherapist if it may be useful.
