Can Maxtra Drops Be Given For Infantile Spasm?
Also what are the side effects? We are seeng him lethargic since we started this and he has she wn mood swing where he starts crying for things which he used to enjoy earlier. E.g. If I ask him to bring his shoes so we can go out, he would bring his shoes but also starts crying. Earlier he used to dhave this smiling because he knows shoes bringing means going out. Earlier if used to see me drink tea, he would come over and happily take tea from me with spoon. Now also he comes for same but does not take the?a. Instead he pushes spoon back. If I don't offer him tea he asks for it. As soon as I give he pushes back. We are confused with his behavior.
I don't think that this is due to side effect of maxtra

Hello
Thanks for the asking on this platform
Maxtra contains chlorpheniramine an antiallergic and phenylephrine a decongestant. It is used in cough and cold.
When given in adequate dosage the side effect is very rare.
There can be rashes, abnormal behavior, restlessness, drowsiness, irritability, urinary problem or dryness of mouth.
The things you have described can be just due to some transient change in mood.If you think that this is due to Maxtra and cough is not significant I would suggest you to discontinue the medication.
Transient nonspecific mood changes are common in this age and in most of the cases improves on its own.
I won't get overly worried if baby is active, accepting feeds well and there is no fresh attack of spasm.Continue with encore, lonazep and other medication for spasm as usual.
Please let me know if you have any more query.
Wishing for your baby's good health.
Regards
If its really transient stage, how do me make him feel comfortable?
Make yourself comfortable first

Thanks for follow up
I don't think that this is due to increase in vitamin B12 drops.Dose of vitamin B12 has a wide range and it is a neuroprotective vitamin. So possibility of mood swing due to slight increase in vitamin B12 is highly unlikely.
Mood swings in common in adults and that too in children.I would suggest to make yourself comfortable first and ignore these mild behavioral change.Avoid the activities which makes him irritable/discomfortable. No specific management is needed unless he gets too disruptive.Just keep patience and he will get normal over a period of time.
I hope this helps.
I would be glad to help you further if you have any further doubt.
