Can Magnex Forte Cause Elevated Blood Sugar?

default
Posted on Tue, 29 Dec 2015
Question: My mother, aged 72 years, is diabetic and takes insulin two times a day. She also takes volibo 0.2 mg tablet twice a day (morning and noon after food). So, her random sugar has been below 135 or so always. Last week, one of her toe had infection and pus formation happened. I took her to doctor. they cleaned the area, took X-ray and found no major issue. But, the doctor recommended alternative day dressings and a dose of magnex forte 1.5 g IV injection twice a day. She has been taking this medicine from last monday (since 8 days) and when we checked her sugar levels after food from last two days, it is showing 180 plus. Is this due to the side effects of the injection? Should we be concerned and talk to doctor again about this?

Brief Answer:
Foot infection is responsible for elevation of blood sugar levels

Detailed Answer:
Hello, Madam.

I can certainly understand your concerns.

The elevated blood sugar is not related to the use of Magnex forte.

Underlying Foot infection is responsible for elevation of blood sugar.

This will subside once the infection is completely controlled.

You need not worry much.

Wait for 3 to5 days for the first sugars to normalize.

Post your further queries if any.
Thank you.
