Can MRSA be contracted through intercourse during menstruation?

Question: Can I catch mrsa by having sexual relations with a woman who is menstruating? How would I know if I had caught anything?

The presence of MRSA is very rare in the vagina (less than 1%) so it not considered a reservoir for infections. Symptoms will guide the investigation of a potential infection.

Please keep in mind that most MRSA carriers harbor the pathogen in their nostrils. Individuals with many recurrent MRSA infections may have to receive treatment to eradicate the pathogen.
