Can Ibuprofen Be Taken For Headache?

default
Posted on Wed, 18 Jan 2017
Question: I am elderly (80) and normally in good health, but was diagnosed with Pneumonia on Thursday and was prescribed Levofloxacin and was told by the pharmacist not to have calcium 2 hrs before or 2 hrs after I take the med. I only related that to calcium in milk products -- I completely forgot veggies - and for dinner last night I had left over brussel-sprouts cut up in my noodles. I'm a writer and usually up half the night - so I ate rather late. But I'm pretty sure there was not 2 hrs between my dinner and my dosage of the med. After trying to go to sleep I have developed a terrible headache, so I looked up veggies with calcium. Now I'm worried because I won't see my doctor until Thursday. Should I be worried about ingesting this combination - or about going to sleep? Can I take Ibuprofen to get rid of the headache?

Brief Answer:
Yes, you can take ibuprofen!

Detailed Answer:
HI,

The fear in combining both is that calcium would reduce the absorption of levaquin and not because they will cause a terrible side effect if taken together. You are fine and it is okay to get ibuprofen for headache relief. You shouldn't be worried as all is okay. Finish the last dose and the fact that the xray was normal shouldn't stop you from thunking you never had pneumonia. The most important thing is how well you have improved over this time.

I wish you well.
