Can HIV Cause Oral Candidiasis?

default
Posted on Tue, 27 Sep 2016
Question: Think i have oral thrush, HIV negative test at 6 weeks, can you get oral thrush without getting HIV? I took the test a couple days after symptoms developed because I was worried. If symptoms were present and the results were negative are the results conclusive? Im absolutely stressing, and can't concentrate or sleep. Im looking in the mirror every 10 minutes.

Brief Answer:
Thrush doesn't mean you have HIV

Detailed Answer:
Hi, Welcome to HCM,

Thanks for writing in.

As per your picture, it is very much clear that you have thrush but it doesn't mean that you have HIV. Thrush is one of the manifestation of HIV but its not vice versa.

In fact thrush is a fungal disease that can be due to many reasons like poor oral hygiene, diabetes, yeast infection or any faulty prosthesis.

You need to maintain good oral hygiene and take anti-fungal drugs after consulting a dentist. Also use Chlorhexidine mouthwash and tongue cleaner. If not treated by all these measures then it might require biopsy by scraping whitish part of lesion.

Hope I answered your query, let me know if there's any further query.

Wishing you good health

Kind regards
