Brief Answer:
There is minor possibility of HIV transmission if she is positive.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thank you for query. I am Dr Bharatesh D Basti answering your query.
Welcome to health care magic. I have gone through the details.

The chances of transmission of HIV by unprotected intercourse with a HIV positive person is1/200 to 1/1000.If protected it is nil.
As the condom failed it is considered as unprotected intercourse.
So there is minor possibility of HIV transmission.
She may be negative too.
You can check her HIV status to be relieved of anxiety.

You can get back for any clarification.

Brief Answer:
PEP to be taken within 72 hours.Discuss with your doctor for PEP.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thank you for follow up query.

If withdrawn immediately the chances are almost nil.
If possible know the HIV status of the person. If she is negative you can allay fears.
If doubtful or unknown or positive you can discuss with your treating doctor for PEP(post exposure prophylaxis) drugs. PEP has to be taken within 72 hours of exposure for better results.

You can go for HIV 1&2 RNA PCR tests after ,10-12 days exposure .
P24 antigen test may not be helpful at this stage.

You can get back for any clarification.

Brief Answer:
Yes.It has some side effects.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thank you for follow up query.
Yes. Any drug will have some side effects. They are minor effects. But it is better to be safe when in doubt of HIV status.

PEP helps in prevention of HIV if taken in proper manner.
Though the chances of HIV is nil, you can discuss with your treating doctor regarding need for PEP.

Brief Answer:
HIV transmission unlikely if person is negative

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thank you for follow up query.
Pep can have side effects like anemia, weakness, bone, gastro intestinal etc.It depends on drug ,dosage ,duration. Do not worry. It is safe for short duration.
The symptoms are nonspecific and may not be due to HIV. Usually it takes atleast 2-4 weeks for manifestation. You can send clear photos of rash for clarification else consult doctor for examination.
If the person is negative for HIV, there is almost nil chance of transmission.

There are other STDs like herpes simplex virus (HSV) which can be transmitted. The chances are higher if there was active lesions at the time of contact.

Hepatitis B transmission also is a possibility.Vaccination in childhood may protect from disesse.Immunity decreases with age.
You can go for booster dose of vaccination now.

HI sir

Thanks for ur answer.

I have got the fellow partner test for hiv, hbsag and hcv and vdrl where all the results where either negative or non reactive. hiv was 0.64 in her case. Am i safe. Or do i need to need to go for p24 antigen for her also.

I have not started the PEP as yet. Do u think really that PEP will work now. I had this intercourse on 2nd XXXXXXX at 12 pm.

I have got myself also tested for HIV where it says 0.65 non reactive. What status I am in pls let me know. I still worried about the viral load she is carrying.

Do i need to get the p24 antigen or dna pcr or rna pcr test done
doctor
Answered by Dr. Bharatesh Devendra Basti (6 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Both are negative.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thank you for follow up query.

If she is negative you can almost relax and get relieved of your anxiety.
But there is a minor possibility of her being in window phase, if she has multiple partners.
So if you want to get relieved of anxiety now ,then you can go for HIV 1&2 RNA PCR now for both.

The titres do not matter as long as it is negative
So you do not worry, both of you are negative.

If you still have a doubt about her HIV status, you can go for PEP within 3 days exposure.

You can get back for any clarification.
