Question: Hi. I am probably being a hypochondriac but I had a home health client last year that had hiv and was on medication. I wore gloves and we had little contact but he did pick scabs and would bleed..although I never touched blood. I do have hpv. Do I have risk of hiv? It'seems probably too late to ask but health anxiety makes you think of everything. . My partner has had other sexual encounters but has been tested multiple times and was negative.

Brief Answer:
Transmission risk is negligible through caring a HIV positive individual

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
Thanks for posting your query.
The risk of transmission of HIV through caring a HIV patient with all precautions is negligible. Health care providers throughout the world and the family members of HIV positive individuals are engaged daily like this, and remain uninfected for years.
At the same time, as you are having HPV infection and your partner is sexually active warrant you to rule out HIV to clear the doubts.

Ok. thank you. I have another question if you are able to answer. I have had a swollen lymph node in my groin for two months. I went to the doctor and was told it was just a swollen lymph node and she did not seem worried. I have been under tremendous stress the past couple months . Should I be worried about cancer?

Brief Answer:
Lymph node swelling can occur to anybody at any time due to various reasons

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.
Lymph node swelling may be due to umpteen causes, not necessarily related to HIV/STD.
The clinical picture of a lymph node is assessed by its size, tenderness, discrete or matted, its consistency and attachment to skin and adherent structures. Apart from that the examination of drainage area for the lymph node and other investigation will help to arrive at the diagnosis and subsequent treatment.
Consult your doctor and get well soon.
