Question: Hello Dr
I am facing sever anxiety. I Have visited a CSW in Amsterdam and a 3-4 days before the incident i have shaved my pubic hair with a hair clipper and had tiny cut in my penis base area. When i visited the csw i forgot about the cuts is there a chance if her verging touches the cuts i will catch HIV. I think the cuts were closed as i haven't noticed them at the time but i rememberd a few days after the incident. I have also got a severe night sweat twice and knee and neck pain i don't know if it is from stressor its a symptom
thanks

Brief Answer:
Suggest running tests.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for contacting HCM with your health care concerns.

You are concerned about possible contraction of an STD from a CSW in Amsterdam. Anytime that you have intercourse with a sex worker without protection you do run the risk of contracting an STD. Though with certified sex workers they are required to be tested regularly for STDs but you never really know which workers are actually being tested and how truthful the workers really are. Since you have a small cut you have increased your risk of contacting disease.

To determine if you have an STD I recommend that you seek medical attention to have them run the proper tests. Since you are having episodes of night sweats and joint pain you may have contracted something but not necessarily an STD. Your doctor may take blood samples from you on the initial visit and again at 3 and six months. As HIV may be in the system for up to 6 months before testing will be positive.

In summary
1. Sex with CSW still at risk for STDs
2. Cuts increase risk of STD
3. Seek Medical attention for labs and possible treatment
4. Continue follow up with doctor for follow up testing.

I hope I answered your question. Please contact HCM again with your medical questions and concerns

Brief Answer:
HIV needs testing at 3 and 6 months after exposure

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for contacting HCM with your follow up question.

I am glad to hear that you have already contacted your medical provider and they have proceeded with proper testing. To confirm your HIV negativity you will need follow up testing at three and six months after your exposure. The HIV testing may not become positive until up to 6 months after exposure. Please follow up with your provider for these additional tests

The next question you have is how long will it take for the cuts to heal. Usually small skin cuts or abrasions will take about 1 week to fully heal. To aid in healing keep the area clean with gentle washing with soap and water. I also recommend not shaving or trimming your pubic hair until everything is healed.

I hope I answered your question. Please contact HCM again with your medical questions and concerns
