Can HIV Be Contracted Through Unprotected Intercourse?

default
Posted on Mon, 4 Jul 2016
Question: Hi Doctor, I'm male 37 years old, Living in Florida, circumcised. A week ago I was stupid enough to have unprotected vaginal sex with an escort. I'm worried sick about HIV or STD's. What are my chances of catching any viruses from one time encounter? I want to add few things, no anal was performed and no ejaculating. I was inside of here no more than a minute each time (3 times). I would really appreciate your input.
I'm worried sick.. What are the risks? am I over reacting? The only symptom i had was last night..sweating like crazy and couldn't sleep.

Brief Answer:
The risk is less than 0.01%.

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this encounter. Your risk is very minimal even if this lady was HIV+. First HIV is not that common in the USA that the chances of having sex with an HIV+ person are high. Even if she was HIV+, the risk is about 1 in every 10,000 persons for unprotected sex. There is really minimal risk. I understand your worries and it is real and that's why you have the anxiety at this time. However, calm down and be relaxed. Am pretty sure all would be fine. In future, always try to protect yourself so as not to go through these episodes of anxiety and fear.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be. Above all, thanks for using our services.

Brief Answer:
Normal sexual activity with protection as always if not with your wife

Detailed Answer:
HI,

This has nothing to do with sexual life. Being careful and just control in three months. Same measures during sex should be applied for protection and not that you should stop your sexual encounters. One word: Always get protection.

I wish you well and keep me updated.

Brief Answer:
HSV1 not from this encounter!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for uploading this report.

The IgG titers signals an old infection and could not have been gotten from this encounter. Besides, HSV1 is not an STD and most people are affected. When anyone has a fever blister, in most cases it is HSV1. If it were IgM titers, then that would have signaled a recent infection and that is not the case.

I wish you well and hope this calms down your fears!

Is sexual encounters with my wife are safe in regards of the HIV rna? Or it's best to get protected for 3 months?
Thank you thank youu again

Doctor. Is it possible to have HIV 1 from long time ago as you suspected without any symptoms? I've checked online for the symptom's and I never had any. Is the test i've taken accurate after 10 days of the sexual encounter? Should I retest?
I'm sorry for asking too many questions.

Always your feedback is much appreciated.
