Can HIV Be Contracted Through Non-penetrative Sexual Activity?

Posted on Tue, 14 Jul 2015
Question: In a message parlour after receiving message, the lady rubbed me (I was naked) with her body only wearing panty. The incident happened on May 15.
Did not have any intercourse(vaginal, oral or anal). No other sexual activity.

2-3 days after found some dry skin peeling from penis and the area looks red. Similar happened again 6 days after that and had a burning sensation there.
Went to a dermotologist at Apollo hospital XXXXXXX He told me Candida/yeast infection and m still continuing Flutavet/Candida B cream. Just completed the course of AF150 tablet.

Starting from last 7 days found the original leson is clear now but same is happening in adjacent area in the penis. And can see very very small blisters. Also having a tingling sensetion.
Have frequent urination and burning pain (very rare).

Had tested for below on 28th day after exposure, all came negative.

- VDRL
- HSV 1+2 IgG & IgM (Both were 0.50)
- HIV Antibody 1 & 2 with P24 antigen
- Hepatitis A, B & C antibody

But as the problem is still there, had a retest today (40th day after exposure) for HSV,HIV, Chlamydia & Gonorrhea from same Lab (Lal Pathlabs). Just received the report for HSV.

HSV (1+2) IgG - Negative 0.50 (Same as earlier)
HSV (1+2) IgM - Negative 0.77

Reference Range : < 0.9 is negative and 0.9 - 1.1 equivocal

My questions:

1. Is HSV IgM on 40th day conclusive? Is High titer value (0.77) close to equivocal range denoting seroconversion?
2. If other test done (HIV, Chlamydia & Gonorrhea) is negative, what are the test should I repeat and when?
3. Do I need to test HSV once again from some other lab?

Brief Answer:
No risk of STDs; don't need to repeat or go for any other test

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query in detail and I have understood your concern.

I don't think that the kind of contact that you had there was any risk of an STD with it. STDs are only transmitted by direct sexual contact i.e vaginal, anal or oral sex.

Coming to your specific questions

1. At 40 days after sexual contact a negative IgM for Hsv suggests that you did'nt acquire Hsv from that particular sexual act.

2. Any index value that is less than 0.9 is indicative of a negative result. Only if Index value is between 0.9 - 1.1 does it require a reconsideration.

3. I dont think there is a need to go for any other test or a repeat Hsv test more so after taking into account the kind of exposure that you had.
