Can HIV Be Contracted Through Kissing?

default
Posted on Wed, 28 Dec 2016
Question: Hi Doctor.I am worried due to some reason.I am from XXXXXXX In last week of July,2016 I had kissed a lady(my neighbor, married with a 13 year kid, less chance of multiple sex partner) on her lips few times. We didn't have sex (Apart from kissing only breast sucking-for 2-3 minutes maximum) and was clothed. But the kisses was lips to lips and in the process she bite me on the inner part of my lower lip(I didn't test any blood).Later I found a very small-a dot like red mark in that spot. Now I am paranoid that I might have got contracted HIV.Do I need a testing?Even If I take an Elisa test(HIV1/2) now after 4 months(Almost 128 days),will that be conclusive? Will I need to take the test again after 6 months? What is the chances of the result coming out as negative in this case? How efficiently these tests are done?

Brief Answer:
Your HIV risk is negligible only.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
Thanks for posting your query.
As you had mentioned that the lady would unlikely to have multiple sex partners, the chances for HIV infection in her is remote.
Human saliva is not infectious as such for HIV unless it is contaminated with blood.
Biting your lips and breast sucking have negligible risk for HIV as per CDC XXXXXXX
So nothing to worry.
Regarding HIV ELISA test 4 months after the risk activities is highly reliable.

Brief Answer:
HIV tests are highly reliable 12 weeks after the risk activities.

Detailed Answer:
HI,
Welcome back.
1. I will not recommend any HIV test for you as you risk is negligible only.
Test can be done to rule out negligible possibility of HIV, just to calm your disturbed mind.
2. All the tests available in the field are highly reliable 3 months after the risk activity up to 97% or more. Two different negative tests make the reliability up to 100%. Test after 6 months is not necessary.

Brief Answer:
HIV risk is almost 'nil"

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.
Don't imagine such odd possibilities. Everywhere in the country similar things are happening so. Today I myself gave blood two hours back. The technician was not wearing gloves and he applied the tourniquet over my arm which is being used for hundred others. Nobody got HIV in this manner.
HIV is highly fragile and can not survive outside the body fluids not more than few seconds. The risk in this manner, even if he has a cut in his finger or you have an injured spot over his contact area, then also it is negligible only.
