Posted on Thu, 18 Jun 2015 in Thyroid Problem and Hormonal Problems
Question: Hi, I am 50 Year, 5ft 8inches (171cm.) male, weight-149 Kg. Has undergone Bariatric Surgery (mini Gastric Bypass) on 15 May, 2015. I am prescribed some medicine along with my previous thyroid, BP and Sugar medicines. Presently I am confused how to make combination of these medicines. As my endocrinologist said not to take any iron, calcium, or Protein at least 4 hour after taking eltroxin. Iron and calcium should not be taken together. Can I take glycomet along with my BP medicines? How many hour gap should be between below given iron and calcium tablets? And Golbi/Uduliv300. Please advice and make time schedule for me to take these medicines. I get up at 7:00am and goes to bed around 11:00pm-11:30pm. I am taking below mentioned medicines.

Eltroxin 250mcg, empty stomach once daily,
Neksium, empty stomach once daily, after 15min to 30 min after eltroxin.
Glycomet SR 500mg, once daily,
Minipress Excel 5 mg, Twice Daily

Brief Answer:
Suitable schedule of drug timings given.

Detailed Answer:

Thanks for your question.

Answers to your questions

1) You can take Glycomet along with BP tablets.
2) Iron should not be taken for at least 1 hour prior to or 2 hours after taking calcium supplement.
3) Take Golbi with meals it means immediate before or after meals.

I am trying to give most suitable schedule to take medicines for you.

1) Tab Eltroxin 250mcg:
Usually I recommend to take eltroxin early in the morning around 4am.
Patient has to keep his tablet and glass of water beside his bed. Wake up at 4am (initially it may require alarm clock later on it become habit) take tablet and sleep again.

2) Tab Nexium:
Take it 15 to 30 min prior to breakfast.

3) Tab Supercal (calcium)
1 tab after lunch and 1 after dinner.

4) Haemup Gems (iron)
1 gem 1 hour after breakfast and 1 gem 1 hour before dinner.

5) Tab Glycomet SR 1 tab after dinner.

6) Tab Minipess XL 1 tab after breakfast and 1 after dinner.

7) Tab Cilacar T 1 tab after breakfast and 1 after dinner.

8) Tab Golbi 1 with breakfast and 1 with dinner.

9) Chewable multivitamin, children Amway after breakfast and after dinner.

10) Tab Maxgalin at bed time.

11) Protein supplements can be taken with any meal twice a day.

You can take Tab Glycomet SR once a day (as advised by your endocrinologist) after any meal.

Thanks doctor i forgot to ask 1 last question

I was told to take Neksium empty stomach. I was told to take is 15 min after eltroxin. But as esomeprazole interfere with eltroxin absorption. So i was taking Neksium at around 8am and vitamin shake at around 8:40 to 9:00am. Am i right, or need to change

Brief Answer:
Neksium is for acidity.

Detailed Answer:

Neksium contain Esomeprazole it is a proton pump inhibitor used for acidity.
In your case it is given to prevent acidity due to medicines.
It should be taken at least 15 to 20 min before breakfast for better action.
So take it 20 min before breakfast (at 8 am or according to your time of breakfast) and other medicines after breakfast.

Hope everything is clear for you.
