Question: Can doxycycline be used to treat an infected tooth? I am allergic to penicillin and clindamycin seems to be making me worse and definitely causes me to have anxiety and heart palpitations.

Thanks for writing in.

Ideally amoxiclav- 625 is most commonly used antibiotic. Now a days cefpodoxime or oflox- ornidazole combination is commonly used.Doxycycline can be given in anaerobic infection & will give you mild relief. Its better to go for root canal treatment or extraction done of required tooth.

Consult your dentist for further treatment plan.

Hope I answered your query
