Can Doxycycline Be Taken After A Full Meal?

default
Posted on Mon, 28 Dec 2015
Question: 3 questions:
1. saw about eating a full meal before taking doxycycline. This pill upsets my stomach thus the food before. Can I eat a good bit before?
2 Also, taking amitriptylne at bed for headaches. Will that interfere with the antibiotic?
3 I will be on doxycycline for a month. Should I take a probiotic to prevent C Diff? Thank you so much! YYYY@YYYY

Brief Answer:
You can take with meals!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about these concerns that you have expressed. I will respond to them just like you asked.

1: Yes, you can take this drug after a full meal if this upsets your stomach unless it is clearly stated on the instructions leaflet not to. Also, drink much water after doing so because this drug can be aggressive to the stomach lining.

2. There is no known drug interaction between doxycycline and amitriptyline.

3. There is no need to take probiotic. Many people take without and do not have any issues with c. diff. I will say, eat healthy and all will be fine.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be. Above all, thanks for using our services.

Is eating yogurt 5 hrs after taking doxycycline ok? Thought I heard eating dairy products while taking this lessens the potency.

Brief Answer:
It is okay!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

5hours is a long time and most of this drug must have been been absorbed. There is really no reason to be so scared about this. Dairy products are not all discouraged as milk can be taken at the same time with some brands.

I hope this helps. I wish you well and keep me posted.
