Posted on Fri, 22 Jan 2016
Question: Hi,
My son is 2.8 yrs, 13.1 kg wt. he would be down with cough, cold, wheezing quite often. Recently doctor suggested seroflo inhaler, nasonex spray along with montair lc syrup that we have been using. Using these from past 5 days. Now again he is sick with dry cough, kind of wheezing. Can we give him correx syrup that we regularly give for dry cough, along with above medicines? Or will it be overdose. In case of wheezing, severe cough can we give him duolin, budecort inhalers while using seroflo? How to differentiate dry and wet coughs in infants, apart from mucus?

Brief Answer:
Stop Montair and start correx

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for the query

It could be that he is suffering from infection of the respiratory tract. Here is how you should go about it

1. In case of severe wheeze you can give budecort along with duolin or seroflow. I do not recommend using seroflow and duolin together as it can cause dose toxicity
2. You can go ahead and give correx but I suggest you to stop montair lc syrup in that case. Using them both together can cause increased drowsiness and tremors
3. I recommend you to get a chest x ray done to rule out infection and a complete blood count to see for increased total count/ eosinophils
4. I usually start antibiotics if cough does not settle or dry cough becomes wet cough, please speak to your doctor about it
5. Avoid cold food and beverages. Let the food be warm
6. Avoid milk products
7. Food should be bland until recovery

I hope I was of help, if you have any further queries please get back to me
