Answer to your first question that Bactrim DS cannot be used to treat syphilis infection. Treatment of early stage of syphilis is very effective and simple. It can be treated by Single intramuscular dose of Penicillin G if you have been infected in the one year.
People with early stage of syphilis will develop one or more sores also called chancre. The sores are usually small painless ulcers. They occur on the genitals or in or around the mouth after three to four weeks after exposure. Sometimes syphilis sore get healed without notice of the person infected.
So I advice you to keep watch of any such sores on genitalia, mouth or near anal region. If such sore develops then you should consult your doctor and get blood test and test of scrapping from sore done.
If syphilis remains untreated then it would progress to next stage. In second stage of syphilis rash develops which may cover entire body. Sometimes symptoms of viral infection like muscle aches, fever, sore throat and swollen lymph nodes can be experienced.
