Can Augmentin Cause Swelling, Redness And Itching On The Knuckles And Wrists?

default
Posted on Wed, 22 Aug 2018
Question: Hi! My daughter, who is 20 years old, tonight noticed her knuckles are swollen and now her wrists are, also, and her skin is becoming red and itchy. She had oral surgery a week ago, and has been on the generic of Augmentin for about a week. She also had a flu shot four days ago. Could this be an allergic reaction? Or is there some virus going around that causes swollen knuckles & joints and itching? I just gave her some Benadryl. Should I be taking her to the E.R.? She says no, and I would hate to make a trip to the E.R. without a real good reason when the place is full of people with flu. Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Looks like an allergic reaction.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

I have gone through your complaints and it seems to be an allergic reaction most likely.

It doesn't look like any viral infection.

You can continue with Benadryl for few more days.

You can avoid going to the ER at present but if the condition worsens or persists for 5-7 days, consult a doctor.

Take care.
