Question: Doctor help! I'm in a remote location in China teaching and have no access to decent med treatment. I know it's wrong but I disgnosed myself with sinusitis ( green thick mucus cough mild fever congestion) in the end of September and took clarithromycin 500 2 times a day for 2 weeks. I got better for 2 weeks and now I'm experiencing the same symptoms with temperature at 37.2-37.5 for 12 days. Should I use amoxicillin?

Brief Answer:
Amoxicillin OK for sinus infection

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for contacting HCM

I am sorry to hear that you have contracting a sinus infection. You have had this type of infection before and you used clarithromycin which cleared the infection. unfortunately you are now in a remote area of China and unable to get clarithromycin. You have available though amoxicillin. This can be used for treatment of sinus infections. The usual dose is 500mg three times a day for 10-14 days.

In addition to the antibiotics I recommend taking a decongestant like phenylephrine and a mucolytic like guaifenesin. Also drink plenty of fluids, aspirin or Tylenol for pain or fever.

Good Luck

Brief Answer:
Yes restart exercise program

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for returning to HCM

You are wondering if you can restart an exercise program during a sinus infection. You can safely return to your exercise program. I caution only to drink plenty of fluids and do not get dehydrated while exercising.

Hope you feel better soon
