Question: I am a 52 year-old woman with high blood pressure. I take Ambien almost every night for insomnia. It obviously helps me sleeps and is correlated with lowered blood pressure. Is this a problem?

Brief Answer:
No it is not a problem

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using healthcaremagic.

Lowering of blood pressure by Ambien is common occurrence and not a problem. In case your BP remains welll below 140/90 following ambien than there is no need to take antihypertensives.

In case during 24 hours duration you see abnormal reading of blood pressure (> 140/90) than you need to take anti hypertensives after consulting a physician.

Hope I am able to address your concerns. If you have any more questions feel free to write back to me.
Thanks and regards
Dr Ashok Kumar
