Can Adderall Be Prescribed Without Consulting A Local Doctor To Effectively Treat Major Depressive Disorder?

Question: Hi. I have been diagnosed with major depressive disorder, general and social anxiety, adult ADHD, and PTSD. I’ve been seeing a psychiatrist for about 2 years. I take Effexor XR, Restoril (as needed), Adderall, and Clonazepam(as needed). However, my psychiatrist has Parkinson’ Disease and will no longer be able to practice. I have almost all of my prescriptions but I’m almost out of Adderall. I won’t get to see another psychiatrist for awhile. I didn’t know what to do so I guess what I’m asking is if one of your doctors could do a consultation and maybe prescribe Adderall until I can see someone locally.

Brief Answer:

Consultation

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Adderall is a Schedule 2 substance regulated by the Drug Enforcement Agency. All prescriptions for controlled narcotics must be written after an in-person examination.

The way I would proceed in your case is to contact your insurance company who can provide a list of doctors in your area who accept your insurance.

Adderall does not have a withdrawal phenomenon, so even if you miss several doses you will be medically safe.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

I’m not sure I can get a prescription until next month. I live in a small town with limited resources. Can you prescribe Adderall for me at least a months supply or even just 2 week supply? I would really appreciate it

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Unfortunately, this would not be legal. Prescribing a Schedule 2 controlled narcotic substance requires an in-person assessment.

Hope I have answered your query.
