Hello,
Sore throat, headache, nasal congestion and fever can occur with sinus infection which can be viral or bacterial. It can also occur in a cough/cold that affects more than the sinuses.
Viral infection is more common than bacterial. The yellow nasal discharge can point to either viral or bacterial infection.
Treatment generally consists of -(1)rest and fluids- the fluids help decrease the thickness of the secretions so that they can be more easily expelled
(2)paracetamol and/or ibuprofen to help with the headache, sore throat and fever.
The two can be combined if one on its own is not enough.
Topical meds can also help your throat eg chloroseptic or covonia throat spray or soluble aspirin
(3)a decongestant would help with the decongestant. A topical and oral decongestant can be used. Eg of topical decongestants eg otrivine or normal saline.
Oral decongestants may be used on their own or found in cough/cold meds.
It can sometimes take 1 to 2 weeks for recovery.
If the fever persists beyond 3 to 4 days then it may mean that you have a bacterial infection that may require antibiotics. A sore throat
