Are These Negative HIV Test Results After 8 Weeks Of Exposure Conclusive?

default
Posted on Wed, 8 Jul 2015
Question: Hi Doc,

I got tested for HIv about start of 8th week of exposure, and below are the results.

HIV 1/0/2 Abs - ICMA
HIV 1/0/2 Abs-index value <1.00 <1.00
Index value: specimen reactivity relative to negative cut off
HIV 1/0/2 Abs Qual. non reactive

Clymadia, gono, hep ABC were also tested and came back negative.

1. What does this result indicate. Do I have to go for further testing, now i am at 15 weeks.
2. I see new sympyoms now, my foreskin cuts while i am having sex with my wife, it also bleeds sometimes, and also night sweats. not sure if the cuts are initial stages of sores.
3. Does any STD symptom show up after 12 weeks of exposure?
4. should i restrain from having sex with my wife?

As per XXXXXXX and other experts on this site, this is not a HIV risk, but i am worried about any other STD'S.

My exposure: cunnilingus, kissing and fingering couple strippers at a club, all of them were on the same day, cunnilingus was very brief probably 10-30 seconds each.

Brief Answer:
Yes you are not at risk of HIV and go for repeat testing after 3 months.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX welcome to HCM. The tests you had mentioned are all antibody tests and results are negative. Antibodies would appear in blood by 6-8 weeks or may be delayed up to 3 months so I will advice you to go for further testing after 3 months to get the accurate result not at present. As far as STD is concerned, the symptoms you had are not clearly suggestive of STD. You need not to restrain from having sex with your wife if you are willing to do what I will advice is just use precautions to avoid risk of STD if any present. Thank You

thank for the response doc, will oraquick home testing kit suffice for my follow up testing. And for the foreskin cut i am applying soframycin for now and will wait until it gets recovered to continue to have sex with my wife.

my other question is, can hiv test change to positive after being negative at 8 weeks, and do any std symptoms show up after 3 months of exposure, and how risky is cunnilingus, few say no risk and few say low risk?

Brief Answer:
Home testing kit will suffice but better to do it at established laboratory

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX

ora-quick home testing kit will suffice for follow up testing but I will advice you to get it done at some established laboratory. Continue applying soframycin cream for cuts in foreskin. As you had asked, there are very less chances to become positive after being negative at 8 weeks and as far as STD is concerned it will appear after 3 months of exposure. In addition risk of getting HIV from cunnilingus is very low.

Thank You
