Are There Any Medications To Treat Excessive Hair Loss?

default
Posted on Tue, 27 Nov 2018
Question: My wife has been seeing visibly extra loss of hair from the last 6 months. She has been trying oiling them regularly, but it has not helped much. Her hairs are typically dry in nature & there is huge loss on daily basis. Are there some tests she should take? Any medication she should start?

Brief Answer:
Treatment of hair fall depends on the cause, go for certain lab tests.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Thanks for your query.

There are many causes of hair loss and treatment depends on the cause.

The most common causes of hair fall encoutered in females are anemia, thyroid disorders, hormonal disturbances, history of child birth, chronic diseases, certain medications, crash dieting, stress, history of fevers like typhoid, dengue and recent history of surgery, trauma and accident.
I would recommend you to go for certain tests like hemoglobin, serum ferritin levels, serum vitamin D levels and thyroid function tests to rule out anaemia and thyroid disease.
Meanwhile, she can start with hair supplements like tablet keraglo XXXXXXX or tablet follihair once daily and apply antihair fall serum like folliserum or anaboom antihair fall serum twice daily on the scalp.

These medicines take time to act and need to be continued for atleast 4-6 months to see significant results.
