Are Testicular Discomfort And Burning Sensation Over The Urethra Symptoms Of STD?

default
Posted on Thu, 9 Feb 2017
Question: I am married and had a complete lack of judgement a month ago. I had unprotected sex with a stranger. I got a 10 panel test done 10 days after exposure. Chlamydia, gonorrea, HSV 1&2, HIV, Hep A,B, & C, and syphlis. All came back negative. I currently am experiencing a mild burning sensation in tip of my penis on occasion, and mild testicular discomfort.

1. Should I get retested for the above

2. Is NGU a std or just considered a uti?

3. What could cause this?. I took a 10 day course of cefdinir and it seems my symptoms started after starting on the cefdinir

Brief Answer:
Tests have to be repeated.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
Thanks for posting your query.
Panel of STD tests, done 10 days after the exposure cannot be considered as conclusive.
NGU is a STD.
Burning sensation over the tip of urethra could be due to various reasons (STD and non STD). A careful examination and investigations will reveal the exact diagnosis and treatment has to be planned accordingly. The course of Cefdinir taken by you is unlikely to be the cause for your problem. If your problem is due to drug you had taken, consummation of adequate water will relieve your symptoms. Anyhow Consult your physician and get well soon.

Would you recommend getting tested again?

Brief Answer:
Tests for STD/HIV have to be repeated.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.
As you had unprotected sex with a stranger, it is always better to rule out HIV/STD. Window period for HIV is 6-8 weeks, may be extended up to 12 weeks. By the end of 3 months, almost all the tests in the panel of STD and AIDS will be reliable. So better to repeat the tests 3 months after your exposure and rule out these possibilities. Tests for Gonorrhea and Chlamydia in urine might be reliable by this time.

I have spoken with the woman. Said she gets tested regularly, everything negative, as recently as last week. It's been a month since I was with her. Said she has never been positive. She said I was the only non condom encounter she had has as well.

I have been prescribed a Zpak 1.5 for chest congestion and sore throat. This would take care of chlamydiq/NGU but not gonorrhea? Only symptom I have had is the soreness at tip of urethra. No discharge whatsoever. How long darter completing Zpak should I wait to get tested?

Brief Answer:
Dosage for sore throat is different from that of Gonorrhea and Chlamydia.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back to HCM.
If you feel that you could rely your sex partner's word then feel relax and forget the incident.
The dosage schedule for sore throat is different from Gonorrhea and Chlamydia. But it can work as a prophylaxis and abort the disease. (curative dose is different).
Whether there is any redness over the urethral opening?
Z-pack would not interfere with the tests for viral diseases (HIV, HSV, Hepatitis). For bacterial diseases, you could wait not less than three weeks after completion of the drug to have the tests. Consult your physician and get investigated to rule out Gonorrhea and Chlamydia. He/she will guide you properly.

There is no redness at urethral opening. Feel a slight dull ache in testes. Is NSU same as NGU? Is NGU and chlamydia the same thing?

The 500mg first day with 250mg for four days which totals 1.5g is not enough to rid out the chlamydia/NGU? I know it wouldn't be enough for gonorrhea. Like I said no discharge at all.

Brief Answer:
Symptoms are unlikely to be due to STD

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.
No redness, no discharge, pain over tip of Penis, dull ache over testes are unlikely to be due to STD cause. We have to rule out Epididymitis and renal calculi.
NSU is not used nowadays, NGU is more appropriate in which Chlamydia is main organism. Azithromycin in the dosage taken by you would be inadequate to get a total cure from the Chlamydial infection. But it could abort the disease before manifestations.
