Are Red Spots In The Scrotum Indicative Of Genital Herpes?

default
Posted on Mon, 9 Mar 2015
Question: Hi, I have a questions about genital herpes. I had an erotic massage. There was no genital to genital contact, however the provider put my hand on her vagina as I lay on the table. She may have incidentally touched her vagina in the process. The she handled my penis and scrotum until release. I was careful not to touch myself with the hand that touched her vagina. I understand that the risk of getting herpes from this is very low. However a few days later I see a few red spots on my scrotum. and they are itchy..they are likely just scratches or dry skin. I am feeling guilty though as I am in a long term relationship and am worried that I may have contracted gential herpes. Can you put my mind at ease. (And yes I won't do it again!)

Brief Answer:
Unlikely to be genital herpes

Detailed Answer:
Hi, welcome to HCM,
Incubation period for genital herpes is 4-5 days (approx.), and most common site is foreskin, glans and shaft of the penis (not scrotum). Further herpes classically presents as small fluid filled blister which appears in group and common symptom is burning.

As per your description you have a red spot on scrotum which are itchy. Therefore to my knowledge, this is unlikely to be genital herpes. I would consider scrotal dermatitis more likely. However ELISA based serological tests is the only means to confirm or rule out herpes infection. You may consider this test.

On the other hand, there is a feature to upload the image by yourself on the right side of this query page. You may utilize that. I shall review images and give my opinion.

Hope this is helpful.

Thank you for your help. Your answer is reassuring. I won't upload images at this time as I feel my constant checking and searching for the spots is exacerbating both my neurosis and the presentation of the spots.
