Are Painful And Swollen Lump In The Groin Area Signs Of Cancer?
Question: Hi. Last week sunday I woke up to a sore groin. It became swollen and I also felt a painful lump right beside to it towards the pelvic region. Both the swollen and lump were painful. Monday I went to the GP who said that was due to a bacterial infection, and prescribed me Macropen and Avelon. I actually had a boil in the groin as well, in the lower part of the groin.
As I took the medication, the pain subsided. But because I googled the symptons and felt that the lump was sort of firm and fixed I panicked. I went back to the GP and he examined me again, said he was satisfied with the response of the antibiotics and that I should not be worried with the fixed lump, that it was due to infection.
I asked him directly can it be cancer? His answear was there is no way that is cancer.
Anyway I finished medication yesterday, the boil is healed, but groin is still swollen and that firm fixed lump is still getting me worried. Am I worrying for nothing?

This is not a cancer sign. Please note that cancerous lump does not respond to an antibiotic. Moreover it would be constantly growing. So there is no chance for it to be a cancer.
Either it is an inflammatory lump which will gradually disappear or an inguinal hernia.
I suggest you to give it some time. A week would be fine. If after that time there will be no improvement, ultrasound of this area should be done.
