Question: Thank you. I have osteoarthritis. Last night I picked up a heavy pan with my right hand. When I did I felt an instant pain and heard a "crackle" Now it hurts really hurts even if I move it in the air, not even lifting anything. Think it is broken i just sprang?

Brief Answer:
In arthritis stress causes pain even without fracture.

Detailed Answer:

Hi
Thanks for your query

I'm Dr Sudhir Kumar

I have gone through your query and understand your concern. You have arthritis so little stresses causes pain due to rubbing of articular surface which is raw. Rest and hot fomentation is helpful. Analgesic such as ibuprofen is helpful in relieving pain. Crepitation can be felt due to arthritis.

I don't think this is a fracture. But to clear any doubts of fracture, it is advisable to get X-ray of the affected region.

Hope your query get answered. If you have any clarification then I will be happy to help you.

Wishing you a good health.
Take care.
