Are Nodules On Fingers And Joints A Sign Of Psoriatic Arthritis?

default
Posted on Mon, 11 Jan 2016
Question: Ok, a few years back I started to get some nodules on my finger and toe joints. I was told it was arthritis. At the same time I noticed that my left collarbone at the tip was much larger than the right. I was telling my older brother and he said, Like this ?? I felt and his was the same. as mine so we wrote it off as genetic. In the last week or so it has become painful in that area and it concerns me. I showed it to my family physician about a year ago and he felt it and said he knew what it was and spit off some syndrome that I think started with a J. Any help you could give me would be appreciated. I have been having finger joint pain for a while now and think I am beginning with some psoriasis. I am concerned about psoriatic arthritis. Thanks so much. XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Psoriatic ARthritis

Detailed Answer:
Good evening

Thank you for writing on health care magic

I have gone through your history and would like to know a few more details to be sure about the arthritis part we are dealing with:

1. What sort of skin lesions are you experiencing and the sites they are coming at...If you could attach a picture it would be helpful

2. Where in the fingers are you experiencing the pain??Is there any swelling also??

3. Anyone in your family has a similar complaints of skin or arthritis

4. Any associated backache/neckpain

The collar bone looks more by birth only which usually goes unnoticed and can appear at a later time in life. If it is not causing you any symptoms , dont worry about it

Do let me know these queries. Would guide you further from here.

If you could attach the pics of the fingers and the skin lesions, would be helpful

Brief Answer:
Is it psoriasis

Detailed Answer:
Good evening

Well, the knots on the joints sound more in favor of Osteoarthritis, considering a background of Diabetes mellitus you have, it can affect your joints early. They will be present near the nails and in the middle of the fingers. You can check on google once.. If it resembles Bouchards and Herbedens nodes.

If it is due to psoriatic arthritis it will be a lot painful and that is something we need to examine before labeling it as psoriatic arthritis.

As for the skin, if it is just flaky and there are no plaques, it cant be called as Psoriasis. Maybe eczema or some secondary fungal infection due to diabetes. However, I would like you consult a dermatologist to get an exact answer. As such, without seeing the lesions it is hard to comment. So, examination or pictures of it would be helpful.

If you could get few pictures, it will be more helpful

Hope the information was useful

Do let me know for more queries. WOuld be happy to help out
