Posted on Mon, 28 Nov 2016
Question: Hello Doctor, Hope you are doing good. I had sexual contact on September 5th 2016 with a transgender for 5 mins. I had weared condoms but am not sure whether it is broken or not. Hence I have taken the HIV antigen and antibody test at 36th day the result is negative and i again did PCR HIV Qualitative test at 53rd day the result is negative and i again i did HIV 1 and 2 test and VDRL test at 60th day the results are negative. Kindly advice whether i need to wait for another 30 days for taking EISA test or i can ignore and relaxed.

Brief Answer:
You can go for repeat test after 90 days.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX

Welcome to HCM.

You had sexual contact with transgender for 5mins but HIV Ag/Ab and PCR test is negative after sixty days then you need not to worry as the risk is very unlikely or practically nil. You can go for repeat test after 90 days to get 100% conclusive result nothing else so be relaxed and move ahead in life happily.

Thank You

Dear Doctor,

I feel more anxious and fear about my test results. I believe you have reviewed my by reports. I have few doubts please help my in querying it.

1) My HIV AG/AB combo test taken on 12/10/2016(37 days after exposure) the result is negative but it is 0.29. May I know whether the value will be increased in future?

2) I have took ELISA test on 23/09/2016(18 days after exposure). Whether it is acceptable.

3) I have took HIV PCR(QUALITATIVE) on 28/10/2016(53 days after exposure). Whether this is acceptable? because as per the forums and AIDS counselling centres they mentioned PCR test is only for babies and this test needs to be taken less than 15days.

4) I have took HIV 1 & 2 test on 04/11/2016(60 days after exposure). Whether this test is acceptable in 2months.

Please explain me clearly for the above questions.

My day is not getting moved out and so helpless. I had done a worst mistake in my life. I cannot able to forget this. Reading the forums am getting more panic.

As you told whether another test is mandatory after 90 days.? are is there any test i need to take before 90days to confirm my result.

Please advice me clearly.......

Brief Answer:
All your tests are acceptable.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX

Welcome back and thanks for follow-up.

You had protected sex with condom then your risk is already less or practically nil so don't get feared or anxious. All your tests are also valid and you are absolutely safe and risk free. Go for HIV antibody test after 90 days as per routine guidelines nothing else so just calm down and move ahead in life.

Thank You

Sir,

Still i have some doubts,

Let me know as per about my reports what is that 0.29 indicate in Antibody and antigen test. If it is less than 1 am negative its updated. If there is no issues then it should be updated as 0 right. ?

And in Elisa also it is updates at 0.38. May i know whether the value will be increased in future.?

And PCR test which i took is NOT DETECTED on 53rd day. So am negative only right? So whether its mandatory to take antibody test on after 90 days.

Am more worried about this concern and am more confused.

Please explain me clearly.

Brief Answer:
The value has not of much significance.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX

Welcome back once again.

Any value for HIV Ag/Ab test below 1 is considered negative so it has not of much significance so dont think about it. RNA PCR is also negative so you are absolutely safe and risk free. It is just as routine to go for repeat test after 90 days but not mandatory so just relax your self and move ahead in life.

Thank You

Sir,

Thank you for clearing me this.

And again i have some doubts, Many HIV counsellors are saying PCR test is only for the kids and not for the adults. And also all the test before 90 days is not confirmatory. PCR test how it works can you able to explain me?

Whether it is good that i took on after 50 days?
And also let me whether PCR HIV (QUALITATIVE) test is RNA or DNA..?

Brief Answer:
PCR test is both RNA or DNA.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX

Welcome to HCM once again.

PCR test is both RNA or DNA and it is also reliable for adults also. It is true that you can get 100% true report after 90 days but the reliability after 60 days is also more than 95% so no need to worry for HIV. Be relaxed and move ahead in life happily.
