Are Mild Cold, Throat Pain And Fever Symptoms Of An STD?

default
Posted on Tue, 7 Jul 2015
Question: Hello
I had unprotected sex with a girl i met in upscale bar for 30 min. After doing it i realized that it can be dangerous to do without condom as it can spread STD's.
After intercourse i asked her and she refused to have any disease but she was pretty normal without condom and had few affairs before too.
It was on 29th April and now its 6 weeks. I got mild cold between 30th April to 2nd May which was cured after taking few medicines.
On 5th XXXXXXX due to excess heat as i have travelling job, i got cold and throat pain, fever went beyond 100 degrees but i took antibiotics prescribed by doctor and i was fine again same day.
Kindly guide me, as i am suffering from anxiety about HIV. Cani get HIV in one time.
I am not having any kind of rashes and ulcers on penis. Kindly suggest what to do.
Can normal blood test will help in knowing status of my health.

Brief Answer:
Rare chances of HIV.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query at HCM.
I understand your concern and situation.

According to me you are having upper respiratory tract infections and need not worry so much. There is low chances of getting HIV in one exposure. Just take rest, analgaesics like acetaminophen and gargles with chlorhexidine for 6-7 times per day. You can get throat swab tested for gram staining and culture sensitivity for bacterial infections. But as you had a high risk exposure so I suggest you to take HIV PCR test after 6weeks and ELISA test 4 th generation after 12 weeks. You can also take PCR test for chlamydia and gonorrhea after 6-8 weeks.

Best of health.
Take care.

Brief Answer:
Yes rapid kits are available.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Wellcome back.

1. Yes you can take HIV rapid kit tests at home such as Oraquick rapid kits but the sensitivity is more after 3 months. These rapid kits are available in markets. But rapid tests is only screening method not confirmatory. You have to visit an ICTC center or government hospital in your area where after counseling you can get HIV testing done by NACO guidelines or 4 th generation ELISA test. You can also get PCR test for HIV done after 6-7 weeks which is also highly sensitive.
2. Normal blood test cannot help to know HIV you need special tests as I described.

Hope I answered your query.
